ThriftSavings - ThriftSavingsPlan

If you are or were a member of the armed forces or if you are a civilian that was employed by the United States Government then you may be eligible for the Thrift Savings Plan. The Thrift Savings Plan is the retirement plan for the United States of America, it's employees and for members of the armed forces.

Similar in dynamics to a 401k plan, the ThriftSavingsPlan administered by the Federal Retirement Thrift Investment Board, is a way of putting money aside for retirement. The amount that you will receive is dependent on how much you put in during your working years and the amount of contributions made by your employer. The money will then earn interest until you are of retirement age.

One good thing about the Thrift Savings Plan is that it provides the same general type of savings benefits as a typical 401k plan. It currently has over $158 billion dollars in the system from over 3.5 million investors.
