In the United States there are many departments of labor. They have the main department of labor which is a cabinet of the Unites States Government and many individual states have their own department of labors as well. They are responsible for such things as minimum wage requirements, unemployment benefits, work place safety standards and unemployment insurance benefits.

Back in 1884 the Unites States Congress started the Bureau of Labor and was later changed to the department of labor. On the federal department of labor's website you can find some really great quick facts that might just surprise you. For example, did you know that the unemployment rate was over 4%? That means that 1 out of every 25 people that live in the United States do not have a job. You can also find out about what the federal minimum wage is and what they are doing about raising it. At the time of this article the minimum wage was set at $5.15.
